This year, we honour caregivers and parents of people with diabetes.
We are proud to share the inspiring story of Irina Zvereva, the mother of tennis player Alexander Zverev. Alexander has been living with type 1 diabetes since the age of four.
Irina says: “With type 1 diabetes, anything is possible.”
Irina shares her son’s story, using the beautiful metaphor of the blue balloon: “Living with type 1 diabetes is like doing everything in your daily life while keeping a balloon in the air. It’s a constant balancing act.”
The Zverev family’s story is a powerful reminder that greatness can grow from challenges.
Medtronic is proud to support Life for a Child through the #BlueBalloonChallenge, helping children in underserved countries gain access to essential diabetes care.

#dedoc° is a global community by and for people with diabetes.
Since 2020, our #dedoc° voices scholarship programme has enabled people with diabetes from over 100 countries to attend major international conferences. More than 400 voices have taken part so far – not as silent observers, but as experts in their own right, bringing lived experience to the table at events like EASD, ADA, ATTD, ISPAD and many more.
Beyond that, we create event formats and develop participatory communication strategies – always with one goal: to make people with diabetes visible. In the community – and wherever diabetes is being discussed: in the media, in politics, in research and in healthcare.
Medtronic is one of the world's largest providers of healthcare solutions. In the past year, Medtronic therapies have improved the lives of more than 72 million people. That's 2 people per second. Ever since the late 1940s, we have worked with others to relieve pain, promote healing, and extend lives. For over 30 years, Medtronic has worked with the global diabetes community to help people with diabetes enjoy greater freedom and better health.
